5 Easy Steps To Adding Free Ringtones To Android 5.0 Smartphones

Downloading free ringtones to an Android 5.0 Lollipop smartphone is not necessarily easier than it used to be on previous Android versions, but we made it easy with our 5-step guide to easily adding a ringtone for free to your Lollipop smartphone! Follow our illustrated step-by-step technique that cannot go wrong. Here are the steps:

1. Before Doing Anything, You Must Install A File Manager Application

A file manager will help you download and save your free ringtones to the right location on your Lollipop smartphone. Here is how to install one:
1. At the bottom of your smartphone's screen, tap the home icon (On Android 5.0 models, it is represented by a central white circle over black background at the bottom of your screen) to go back to your home screen.
2. If the Playstore icon is already on your home screen (as in our current example), just tap it and skip to sub-step 5.
3. Otherwise, open your phone's application menu, which, on Android Lollipop smartphones, is a white circle with dots in it.
4. Locate the Play Store in the list (which is generally organized alphabetically) and tap it.
5. Using the top-right search icon, search for "File manager."
6. Then, tap the bottom right search icon to display the results of your search.

2. ES File Explorer Is What We Found Works Best For Ringtones, So Choose It

We found out that the free ES Explorer application is what works best, but other similar file managers can also help you install a ringtone on your Android 5 smartphone.
1. Choose (tap) ES Explorer in the search result list.
2. To install it, just tap install...
3. ...then, accept the terms and permissions.
4. Then just wait for the installation to finish and open ES File Explorer.

3. Now, Choose One Of Our 100% Free Ringtones For Android 5.0 Smartphones

Start by selecting one of our great free ringtones (but the process illustrated here works with any other free ringtone in WAV, MP3 or OGG format as well) that are compatible with your Android Lollipop 5.0 smartphone right here on Phonerated.com:
1. To add free ringtones to Android 5.0 smartphones, we found out that it is easier to use Firefox (because of the way it offers to save files), so download and install Firefox on your Lollipop smartphone.
2. Start your Android's Firefox web browser and go to Phonerated.com, then browse to our main menu.
3. Scroll all the way down to "Browse our free ringtones" and tap it.
4. Check out the various free ringtone collections and select one that inspires you. For the purpose of this demonstration, we will use the Tropical ringtones series, composed by Martin Plante, our home ringtone artist.

4. Or Let Our Fun Ringtone Matcher Quiz Find Your 3 Personal Ringtones

There is also a fun way to find your best-matching ringtone among our free ringtones: Use our Ringtone matcher quiz, which finds your best 3 ringtones in less than a minute based on your answer to a few fun questions.

5. Choose And Download A Ringtone To Your Android 4.4 Smartphone

Now, download the ringtone you chose to your smartphone memory:
1. For the purpose of the demonstration, let's download the free "Playa Bananas" ringtone to your Android 5.0 phone. But this technique works with any other ringtone, so feel free to use your own.
2. Just tap and hold the "OGG" link (MP3 or WAV would work too) .
3. Then, a pop up menu should open with choices in your own language. Accidentally, our image for this particular step shows choices in French, but your English smartphone should feature an option called roughly "Open with ES Downloader."

6. Go To Ringtone Settings

1. From the home screen of our Android 5 smartphone, tap the Settings icon, represented by a gear.
2. If it is not on your home screen, you will find it in the alphabetical list of your applications.
3. From the various settings list, tap Sound & Notification, which you will find next to a bell icon.
4. Your previous ringtone should be mentioned under Phone ringtone. Tap that!

7. Now, Locate That Ringtone!

Finally, Browse To Your Previously-saved Ringtone In Your Storage Memory.
1. Your Android 5 Lollipop smartphone should offer various options, including "Complete action using ES File Explorer." Choose that.
2. Then, find your way to the Download folder (it may already open in that folder).
3. Your Playa Bananas ringtones should be somewhere in the list. Tap it... And you are done!
